After picking you up from your hotel at the start of our Quebrada of Humahuaca Tour, we make our way north though the city to the small area of Vaqueros before continuing on into the beautiful cloud forest known locally as “Las Yungas”. We will meander through the lush green vegetation before dropping down into the area of San Salvador de Jujuy, the second largest city in northern Argentina.
After making our way past the city we will stop for a quick rest before moving on to the Quebrada of Humahuaca. The Humahuaca Ravine is a UNESCO world heritage site due to its Indian roots and cultural wealth.
As we travel throughout the ravine we will have the opportunity to stop at the famous hill of seven colours in Purmamarka and visit the old Inca fortress or “Pucara” in the town of Tilcara.
Our Quebrada of Humahuaca Tour continues as we arrive in the historical town of Humahuaca you will have the chance to walk through is cobbled streets and explore is small plaza and many stalls. An impressive monument to the Independence of Argentina is situated here due to the last battles that we fought during the struggle against the royalists.
Another option on this trip would be to visit the huge “Salinas Grandes” salt flats instead of carrying on up to Humahuaca. Please ask us for more details.
After a casual lunch we will make our way back to Salta through the agricultural areas of the province of Jujuy taking in the vast sugar and soya bean plantations.
The journey to and from the Quebrada of Humahuaca is roughly 6 -7 hours depending on the amount of stops we make.
As always we like stop at various locations to give you a chance to take in the scenery and stretch your legs to break up the journey.

How we spend the time
Gareth picked us up and off we went…up into the mountains: Quebrada de Humahuaca, overnighting in Tilcara. It was great having a personal English speaking guide who ensured we did the sorts of things that interested us. Day 2 the awesomeness continued, visiting Salinas Grandes and Purmamarca …before the drive back to Salta airport in plenty of time for our flight! Thankyou !
We did both of our tours with Gareth, who was a total legend. He really went above and beyond to give us the best trip ever, and we felt we left having gained a friend.
“The pace of the trip was perfect and Gareth was an excellent guide- informative, knowledgeable and friendly. We have some fantastic memories (and photos) of the trip. Thanks again for making our time so memorable”.
“Our guide was Gareth, originally from England, a very special boy for his sympathy connected to a great kindness and attention to the needs of tourists.
For us, the main feature was the fact of providing us with important information of the places visited, always willing to accommodate our requests, also leaving space to visit alone.

“James and I can not thank you enough for making our trip so incredibly special. You are a wonderful travel companion and your knowledge of Argentina is impressive.
Please keep in touch”
Jane and I have had such a wonderful 3 days visiting such varied and unique landscapes and with the only person we would ever trust to drive us up and down those hairy roads and through enormous deserts. Your love of this country really came across. What a trip!!! 5 stars all round. Thanks a million.
